Winter Grillin'

We live in the Texas Panhandle where winter can be a lion or a lamb.  On a day in early January, when it is 56 degrees and sunny, the idea to grill is a good one.  The thing to keep in mind, in winter, is that supper needs to be early or you'll be grilling in the dark, as we were.

We really enjoy meat off the grill.  We tend to pull out the stops when we fire up the coals and fix enough for the week.  This night we did steaks, chicken and pork chops.  Staying in step with our wellness program, (begun here and celebrated here), and the Points Plus plan we roasted carrots, onions and potatos in the oven.

The night cooled quickly once the sun went down and we were checking progress with a flash light but, . . . umm, umm.

My son came outside, sniffed the air and crooned, "Nothin' like winter grillin'."

I couldn't agree more.

  1. We have done some Winter Grillin ourselves! Richard got a really nice grill light for Christmas from Jill. Beats the flashlight at our house as we can never find a working flashlight when we need one!

  2. I agree! I've cooked on the grill when there's snow on the ground. We also used the grill when we had an ice storm (and no power) two years ago.
    Happy weekend,

  3. Julie, I'd like to see that grill light, sounds like a perfect grill tool.

Karen, I've grill in my fireplace when the grill urge was strong and the weather unfavorable. Good call with the power out though.

  4. We move the grill to the garage and when it's raining and we want to do some grilling, we open the garage, move the grill up front and fire away. Can't beat such convenience.

  6. Rosaria, the garage is where we should move for the winter, we wouldn't have to use the flashlight!

Libby, so glad you like the toaster. We use Western Bagle muffins, 2 points for the whole muffin, found next to the butter in the refrigerated section.

  7. I'm so jealous. Here in northeast Kansas, we won't even think about grilling for about 2 more months. Saturday, our high was 11 degrees. Argh.

  8. Suzanne, I envy you the snow . . . on occassion. My perfect winter day is enjoying snow one day and returning to the sun and warm weather the next. I'll think of you next time we fire up the grill.
